Spectacular Brown Sugar Cake Recipe


This is an absolutely fabulous brown sugar cake recipe: rich, moist and flavorful! I think this is now the favorite cake recipe in my home.

Then again how can anything with 3/4 pound of butter taste bad?

If what you want is a delicious cake recipe...this is the one. On the other hand, if you are calorie conscious this may not be your best bet. But cake and calories have never been best friends, so give this brown sugar cake a try and then come back and give us your opinion.

Ingredients for Brown Sugar Cake Recipe

3 cups all-purpose white flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk
1 1/2 cups butter - softened - 3 sticks
1/2 cup white sugar
2 1/2 cups brown sugar - loosely packed
5 eggs
1 teaspoon rum flavoring
1 serving frosting of your choice - I used "best buttercream frosting."


Method for Brown Sugar Cake
In a medium size bowl, blend together the flour, salt and baking powder. Set aside.

In a stand mixer - or you can use a hand mixer or food processor - cream the butter, the white sugar and the brown sugar. Add the eggs one at a time and blend well after each addition. Mix until the mixture is light in color and texture.

Add the vanilla and the rum extracts. Combine well.

Add the milk and the flour mixture, mix until well combined.

Pour into a greased tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 60 to 70 minutes or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Let the cake cool, and then you are ready to frost it...if you choose to!
